Make a difference for nature today
Biodiversity continues to decline under pressure from farming
practices, infrastructure planning and, of course, climate change. The UK has
seen declines in >50% of plant and animal species; only 3% of our meadows
are left compared to before World War Two; we are one of Europe’s least-wooded
countries; most of our orchards are gone; many plant species are in decline
along with the animal communities they support.
Here are at Woodmeadow Trust we want to address the dramatic
decline in biodiversity through the creation of woodmeadow. A truly biodiverse ecosystem, comprising of wildflower
meadow, lots of ‘messy edges’, grassland merging into a graduated woodland edge
with flowering and fruiting shrubs, and small trees ranging through to a high
canopy of forest trees. All providing
the structural diversity that provides a haven for wild range of wildlife, a
haven buzzing with insects, alive with birdsong and replete with the wildflowers
and grasses they all depend on.
By donating, you are helping us create these vital woodland ecosystems
that not only benefit our threatened native wildlife but give people greater
and easier access to the joy and beauty of nature.
